Exam Fees

After you get a letter from us approving you to take the NCEES exam, you must pay the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES (ncees.org)) a separate exam fee.

How to Reschedule an Exam

You may ask to take the next available exam by submitting the Reexam or Exam Reschedule Application with a check or money order payable to the Department of Licensing for the appropriate rescheduling fee to:

After You Pass the Exams

If you pass both the NCEES exam and the WA Specific 4-hour exam, we'll send your:

  • License number within 8 weeks.
  • Wall certificate within 12 weeks.

Make sure that we have your current mailing address. You may look for your license number online, as it may take 2 extra weeks for your printed license to reach you.

What if I have questions about a state-prepared exam?

What can I bring to the exam?

Please visit NCEES exam-day policies, for information about items allowed in the exam room. The NCEES land surveyor exam is a closed-book exam. The Washington State 4-hour land surveyor exam is an open-book exam.

If I've been approved to take an exam in the past, is that approval good for any upcoming exams I want to take?

It depends on the type of test:

  • If you're approved by the Washington Board for the Fundamentals of Land Surveying exam, visit the NCEES website (ncees.org) to register for the exam.
  • If you were approved for the Professional Land Surveyor's exam, that approval was good only for the exam you applied for. You must submit a new request and fee by the deadline to be approved for another exam.

Can I review a failed exam?

No, reviews of exams offered on behalf of or administered by the Washington board aren't permitted. All candidates who fail a Washington-specific exam are provided a scoring breakdown in the subject areas covered by the exam.
